1 Blessed Vasily was born in the first years of the reign of the Moscow grand prince John III (1462-1505) in the then Moscow village of Elachov, where now are the streets of Elachov and Basman.
2 The body of Blessed Basil was buried near the Church of the Holy Trinity on the Rhine, where in 1554 John the Terrible ordered to build in memory of the conquest of Kazan the Pokrovskaya Cathedral, better known as the Church of St. Basil the Blessed. In 1586, the relics of the blessed Basil began to shed many healings and in the same year by order of King Feodor Ioannovich a temple was built in his name (now the Basilica of the Pokrovskaya Cathedral), a silver one was built, decorated with pearls and precious stones and set to celebrate his memory on August 2.
